Van Loan Hill is a drumlin in the Catskill Mountains of Greene County, New York, southwest of Maplecrest and surrounded by nearby uplands including Round Hill, Elm Ridge, and the East Jewett Range. Formed during the Last Glacial Period, it differs geologically from many better-known Catskill summits. Its name may be linked to Walton Van Loan, a local guidebook author and cartographer. Water has also shaped the area, with Batavia Kill along the north slope and tributaries of East Kill to the south. Access improved when the 116-acre Maplecrest Unit opened for hiking in 1999, and after damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, restoration and stream-stabilization work followed in 2012.
