The first known business on this lot was the T.J. Walker Grocery, which burned in 1873. It was replaced by a two-story brick building that housed Nixon Grocery and the Nixon School of Music on the second floor, where music lessons could be heard across the square when the windows were open. After the 1930 fire destroyed that building and its contents, A.C. Bishop constructed the current building. Its later occupants included Ideal Grocery, then Pewitt's Grocery in the late 1930's and 1940's, followed by Bates 5 & 10 in the 1950's, then Family Shoe Shop, Bonanza Sales, and Dee's Novelty Shop. Beginning around 2001, New China Restaurant operated there, followed by Snappy's Pizza. Rebecca Bates purchased the building in 2014 and opened B Squared Antiques, and after its closing, Veteran's Services occupied the building.
