Wagoner, the first incorporated town in Indian Territory, was settled on June 5, 1887 by the Wm. H. McAnallys and incorporated on January 4, 1896 to provide law and order, public improvements, and the upbuilding of society for its citizens, who offered the first free municipal schools in Indian Territory in 1897. This building was the first permanent brick building there.
