Established in 1966 near Rifle in western Colorado, Rifle Gap State Park spans 1,341 acres around the 360-acre Rifle Gap Reservoir, which anchors the recreation area. Its setting combines pinyon-juniper woodland, sagebrush shrubland, and pockets of deciduous riparian forest along the reservoir’s edge, creating habitat for mule deer, elk, and great horned owls. The park serves both day visitors and overnight campers with a visitors center, campgrounds, picnic sites, and a boat ramp. It remains an important base for outdoor recreation focused on the reservoir and the surrounding high-desert landscape.
