County commissioners ordered Newport Covered Bridge in 1885 as a link across the Little Vermillion River at the Newport and Quaker Point Free Gravel Road. It was built in 1885 by Joseph J. Daniels of Rockville in a Burr truss design, with a 180-foot span and sandstone abutments. Its floor was replaced in 1984, and it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
