Pioneer Settler
History
William Wood (1773-1851), a native of Virginia, was a founder of Cumberland and a leader in Clinton County. He represented Cumberland County, when Clinton was part of it, in the General Assembly for 23 years. He was one of the founders of Clear Fork Baptist Church, the first in Clinton County, and served with distinction in the War of 1812, where he was commissioned brevet major.
