Stetson Mountain in Washington County, Maine, near the New Brunswick border, is an eight-mile ridge rather than a single peak, rising to between 1,080 and 1,090 feet. It lies in the Mattawamkeag River watershed within the larger Penobscot drainage, with runoff feeding Meadow Brook, Hot Brook, and Baskahegan Stream. The mountain is also a significant site in Maine’s wind power development. Approved in 2008 and operating by 2009, the Stetson Wind Farm began with 38 turbines generating about 167 million kilowatt-hours annually, becoming New England’s largest operating wind energy project at the time. A second phase later expanded development onto nearby Jimmy and Owl mountains.
