Buffalo Springs, a noted watering place, gave its name to Bison, 1 mile south. It was the campsite of Pat Hennessey and his men just before they were massacred 7 miles south on July 4, 1874. The next day, ranchmen stood off a war band of Indians at the springs. Crowds gathered here for the Oklahoma Run on April 22, 1889.
