Dean Covered Bridge stood in Brandon, Vermont, about a mile south of the village center where Union Street crossed Otter Creek, carrying local traffic toward the town’s rural southwestern area. Built around 1838 and also dated to 1840, it was a single-span Town lattice truss and, by the time of its destruction, one of Vermont’s oldest covered bridges. When it entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it was one of only two surviving 19th-century covered bridges in Brandon. Reinforced over time and finished with vertical siding and a gabled slate roof, it was destroyed by arson in 1986 and replaced with a modern bridge.
