On Saturday nights in the early 1920s, music, laughter, dancing, and conversation filled this mountain plateau as people gathered at a nearby inn known locally as Minnie's Mansion, built by Charles Adams and his daughter Minnie in 1921. At a time when ranchers and their families commonly established camps here after moving dairy cows and sheep to the high plateaus for summer grazing, Minnie's Mansion became a popular place for socializing, dancing, dining, and holiday rodeos. Minnie, later Mrs. Miriam Adams Burton, ran the lodge and was remembered for insisting that men remove their hats before entering and for making sure everyone behaved, giving the mountain a social hub centered on good clean fun.
