Winchester Memorial Church stands on the site of the Town Hall and Meeting House, which was destroyed by fire on Sept. 12, 1909 after serving as the home of the First Universalist Society for more than a century. The present edifice was built in 1912 as a memorial to those who assembled there in 1803 and framed the First Universalist Confession of Faith, known as The Winchester Profession. Funds for the building came from individuals, churches, societies, and conventions throughout the Universalist denomination.
