Jedediah Smith Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in Wyoming on the western slopes of the Teton Range, within Caribou-Targhee National Forest and bordering Grand Teton National Park as part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Congress designated it as wilderness in 1984 to strongly protect this delicate mountain environment. Under the 1964 Wilderness Act, the land is kept largely undeveloped: no roads or buildings are constructed, and logging and mining are prohibited. Motorized and mechanized travel, including bicycles, is not allowed. Camping and fishing are permitted with proper permits, and hunting is allowed in season under national forest wilderness rules.
