Galena Peak
Nature
Galena Peak is a prominent 11,167-foot mountain in central Idaho’s Boulder Mountains, within the Hemingway–Boulders Wilderness near the Blaine and Custer county line. Visible from Highway 75 at Galena Summit, it is a popular climb and one of the notable high summits along that corridor. The peak rises steeply above nearby river valleys, with runoff draining west toward the Big Wood River and east into the Salmon River system. Set in an alpine subarctic climate, it has long, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and conditions that can bring severe cold, wind chill, rain, and lightning.
