Palmyra Peak is a 13,319-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, about four miles south of Telluride on Uncompahgre National Forest land west of the Continental Divide. Rising sharply above Prospect Basin and Alta Lakes, it forms a striking backdrop to Telluride Ski Resort and is linked to the highest inbounds skiing terrain at any North American ski resort. The peak also reflects the region’s mining history: its official name came from the Palmyra Mine, and other mines worked its flanks. In its alpine subarctic setting, year-round precipitation and snowmelt feed Bear Creek and Prospect Creek.
