Jupiter Inlet Historic and Archeological Site
History
1
In Jupiter, Florida, near A1A and DuBois Park, this site preserves an ancient shell midden created by the Jaega people and marks the location of the village of Hobe, recorded by the Spanish as Jobe. It is closely connected to the origin of the town’s name, which emerged when Hobe was later confused with Jove, eventually becoming Jupiter. Because of its archaeological and historical importance, the site was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 5, 1985.
