Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa occupies Villa Philbrook, the former Italian Renaissance-style home of oil pioneer Waite Phillips and his wife Genevieve, donated to the city in 1938 and opened as a public museum in 1939. Designed by Edward Buehler Delk and set within 25 acres of gardens, the estate preserved many of its mansion interiors while adapting to museum use. Over time, Philbrook expanded its educational programs, galleries, and facilities, becoming a major cultural institution. Its collections range across European, American, Native American, modern, contemporary, African, Asian, and antiquities, with Native American art remaining a central strength.
