Mount Brewer
Nature
Mount Brewer is a high summit on the Great Western Divide in California’s Sierra Nevada, within Kings Canyon National Park, and is recognized among the state’s four-thousand-meter peaks and thirteener-class mountains. It was named for William Henry Brewer, a leading figure in the first California Geological Survey, who led the field party exploring the central High Sierra in 1864 and later became the first Chair of Agriculture at Yale University’s Sheffield Scientific School. Its importance rests both in its prominent place within the park’s dramatic high country and in its connection to early scientific exploration of the Sierra Nevada.
