Whitehouse Mountain is a 13,492-foot summit in Colorado’s Sneffels Range, part of the San Juan Mountains in the Rocky Mountains. In Ouray County, about four miles west of Ouray and west of the Continental Divide, it rises dramatically above the valley, with its east face climbing about 5,680 feet in roughly four miles. Near Potosi Peak and Mount Sneffels, it stands within some of the range’s most rugged high country. The name was in use by 1906 and was later officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names. Its alpine subarctic climate brings snowy winters, cool to warm summers, year-round precipitation, and runoff into tributaries of the Uncompahgre River.
