Powderhorn Resort is a ski area on Colorado’s Grand Mesa near Mesa, known for dry powder snow, varied terrain, and wide views from the mesa toward the high desert. With a base at 8,200 feet and a summit at 9,850 feet, it offers a 1,650-foot vertical drop across about 1,600 skiable acres served by five lifts. Skiing on Grand Mesa began with a rope tow in the 1940s and Mesa Creek Ski Area in the 1950s before Powderhorn opened in 1966. Since then, expansion, ownership changes, snowmaking, summer recreation, and new lifts have steadily reshaped it into a longstanding western Colorado resort.
