A Thomas Campbell log structure stood here in the 1800s, and by 1856 it housed a hatter shop. In 1862, G.G. Rupley was taken prisoner by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, and in October 1862 George White, a student, had his watch taken here by rebel soldiers. Later occupants included Dr. Negley, M.D., in 1868, J. Hervey Rankin in 1891, and Samuel and Louise Kuhn in 1946.
