Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont, occupies 45 acres near Lake Champlain, where art, architecture, gardens, and historic buildings form a unified setting for about 150,000 objects. Founded in 1947 by Electra Havemeyer Webb, it reflected her vision of showing American life and creativity in authentic contexts by relocating historic New England and New York structures to the site. Its collections range from American folk art, decorative arts, paintings, textiles, furniture, decoys, and tools to European Impressionist works from the Havemeyer collection. Distinctive features include twenty-five relocated historic buildings, the steamboat Ticonderoga, and later expansions that supported year-round operation and new interpretation of Native works.
