Boiling Springs has long been a prairie oasis where Plains Indians camped and rested before pioneer settlement. After the Land Run of 1893, the area that became the park was part of several pioneer homesteads. In 1925 William Shaul purchased land containing the Boiling Spring to create a recreation area, and in 1930 he built Shaul Lake. During the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Civilian Conservation Corps on March 31, 1933, as part of the New Deal, providing meaningful work and hope to millions of Americans. Boiling Springs State Park endures as a lasting gift from earlier generations, offering a place to recreate, rest, and rejuvenate one’s spirit across time.
