Mount Mitten
Lore
Mount Mitten is a 3,058-foot mountain in New Hampshire’s Dartmouth Range whose unusual name is tied to early exploration in the White Mountains. Local tradition holds that Timothy Nash lost a mitten there after climbing a tree on the summit to get his bearings. From that high vantage point, he saw Crawford Notch, connecting the mountain’s name to an important moment in the region’s travel history.
