Mount Adams, a 5,793-foot peak in New Hampshire’s northern Presidential Range, is the Northeast’s second-highest mountain after Mount Washington. Named for John Adams on July 31, 1820, it anchors a cluster of nearby peaks that honor members of the Adams family. A major destination in the White Mountains, it is reached by routes such as Valley Way and Air Line, while the Appalachian Trail and Randolph Mountain Club facilities support hikers and climbers on its north side. Despite that accessibility, Mount Adams is also known for severe, fast-changing weather, especially in winter, making it both a celebrated summit and a mountain that demands caution.
