Deer Valley is a ski-only resort in Park City, Utah, known for its upscale operations and its rare ban on snowboarding, making it one of only three American resorts reserved for skiers. Skiing there began with Park City’s Winter Carnivals in the 1930s, followed by trail and facility construction by the Works Progress Administration in 1936–1937 and the first lifts in 1946. Renamed from Snow Park Ski Area, the modern resort was founded in 1981 and later expanded dramatically. Its gentle terrain helped make it a major American center for freestyle skiing, especially after hosting events during the 2002 Winter Olympics and later world championship and World Cup competitions.
