Peppersauce Cave, a limestone cave in the Santa Catalina Mountains of southern Arizona near Oracle, is one of Arizona’s more accessible wild caves, with about a mile of mapped passages and heavy public use despite lacking developed facilities or guided access. Publicized nationally in 1948 and 1951, it includes the Big Room, a main lake reached by a 15-foot ladder, and deeper passages entered by another ladder, along with features such as the rabbit hole, the Slide, and the Signing Room. Heavy visitation brought littering, vandalism, and bacterial contamination, prompting a conservation project in 2001; by January 2003, cleanup efforts had removed graffiti and water sampling found no harmful bacteria.
