Pyramid Peak is a 12,779-foot mountain in Kings Canyon National Park in Fresno County, California, standing west of the main Sierra Nevada crest among several nearby high summits. Though not one of the range’s best-known mountains, it is California’s 214th-highest peak and is notable for its steep local relief, with its southwest side rising more than 2,300 feet in about a mile. The name likely originated in the early 20th century with Joseph Nisbet LeConte and appeared on the 1907 Mt. Whitney Quadrangle map before official adoption. First recorded climbed on July 21, 1942, the peak remains an isolated alpine destination reached in part via the John Muir Trail.
