ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge is a federally protected refuge in South Carolina within the larger ACE Basin. Officially named the Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge, it covers 11,815 acres and is the only federally protected part of the broader basin. The refuge is organized into the Edisto River unit and the Combahee River unit, reflecting the river systems that define this coastal landscape. Its habitat supports species including the wood stork, a threatened or endangered bird, highlighting the refuge’s role in conserving one of South Carolina’s important estuarine environments.
