Collingsworth County Hospital
History
2
The original hospital on this site, the first in Collingsworth County, was built in 1917 by L.H. Stall. In 1924, Dr. Elmer Wood Jones, one of the two surgeons then practicing here, bought the facility. In 1935 he built a 15-bed fieldstone hospital on the same block and vacated the old building. In 1936, Dr. Jones gave the hospital to the Sisters of the Dominican Order of Springfield, Ill. Renamed St. Joseph's, it gained accreditation in 1950, and in 1951 its size was doubled with the addition of a wing. In 1972, the sisters sold it to the people of Collingsworth County.
