The Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum in Spooner, Wisconsin, preserves the history and cultural heritage of the North American canoe and is the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to that mission. Opened in May 2010 in the former Baker Grain Elevator building, it was created by volunteers with support from the city of Spooner, reflecting strong community involvement. Its Exhibit Hall features canoes and related artifacts from the golden age of North American canoeing to contemporary builders, representing traditions from the eastern seaboard, the Midwest, and Canada. A 2,500-square-foot Canoe Shop also supports builders and restorers, helping the tradition continue.
