Mount Marsell is an 11,340-foot peak in Utah’s western Uinta Mountains, about 50 miles east of Salt Lake City in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Part of the Rocky Mountains, it stands near the divide between runoff flowing to the Weber River and to the Bear River. The mountain is especially notable for its dramatic local relief, with the summit rising 1,960 feet above the Weber River in only one mile, creating a steep, prominent profile. Officially named in 1974, it honors Dr. Ray E. Marsell, a University of Utah professor and environmental geologist. The area has a subarctic climate, with tundra on the highest slopes.
