The Easleys restored the Whiting Apartments largely through their own work, beginning with extensive cleanup and spending the major portion of the project over 1 to 2 years. They first addressed the exterior structure, repairing only part of the brick, masonry, and stucco where needed, then repaired the apartment roofs and concrete walkways by removing layers of tar paper and black tar coating, replacing the roofs with metal, and sealing the walkways with a concrete sealer. They brought the electric and plumbing up to code, patched and repaired much of the interior walls, and added specially made side windows for air conditioning while preserving all other original windows. The original apartment floor plans were retained, with each unit keeping its bedroom-living room combination, kitchen, bathroom, and large walk-in closet, and most original claw foot bathtubs remained in use. A couple of the original service windows were also preserved for their historical value; these had allowed groceries, ice, and laundry to be delivered without entering the apartment. Future plans sought to bring the apartments as close to original as possible for overnight or weekly lodging for guests touring Pawhuska. Although most commercial spaces had been altered inside to suit current businesses, they still retained original floor plans and designs, including very high ceilings, front and rear access, and penicore glass above each storefront window. The history of the commercial spaces included 709 housing B and R Furniture Co., J.R. Harris and Indian Silk Shop in 1925, M and M System Groceries in 1928, and Crawford Transfer and Storage in 1956.
