W.E. Bishop and Virginia H. Bishop shared a deep love for Florida and its rivers. Senator Bishop was a conservationist and farmer who, during his service in the Florida Senate, was a key figure in establishing Ichetucknee Springs State Park. Virginia Bishop was a civic leader and historian who worked for many years to preserve the heritage of North Florida and, before her death, established a section in the Columbia County Public Library celebrating North Florida and its beauty. Together they cherished this spot on the Suwannee River and its view of the river's bend, and they wished for it to be preserved in its natural state so future generations could enjoy Florida at its best there.
