Gersham Hunt (1765-1818), his wife Sarah Orton Hunt, their descendants, and family slaves are buried here. Gersham Hunt was the son of Jonathan Hunt, one of the founders of the Jersey Colony of North Carolina, and served on the North Carolina Committee of Safety during the Revolutionary War. He led a contingency from Rowan County, NC, and settled here in 1799. He was a Justice of Peace and a member of the Williamson County Court, and his grandson William Gersham Hunt was County Surveyor. The property passed to the Little family through the marriage of Inez Hunt to Robert Milton Little and remained in Hunt-Little family ownership for over 200 years before being sold for development in 2004.
