Saddlebag Island Marine State Park is a small public park on twenty-four-acre Saddlebag Island in Padilla Bay, part of the San Juan Islands near Anacortes. Reached primarily by boat, it remained privately owned until Washington State purchased it in 1974 and opened it as a park. That history left it compact and relatively undeveloped, suited to simple outdoor recreation rather than extensive facilities. Visitors use the island and surrounding waters for hiking, boating, crabbing, diving, saltwater fishing, swimming, water skiing, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. Camping is primitive, with four campsites, including one for travelers on the Cascadia Marine Trail, and there are no docks or mooring buoys.
