Born on a farm in Rocky Branch, Louisiana, Alton Hardy Howard served in World War Two before making a home for his family in West Monroe. Though a successful businessman, his passion for music followed him all his days. He produced and managed the Steffins Sisters, whose gospel, bluegrass, and country recordings included sessions with Nashville’s top musicians. He also produced a number of records with Ray Walker, a member of the Jordanaires and backup singer for Elvis. Alton founded Howard Publishing and wrote over 50 songs and hymns. He also compiled several hymnals that have sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Alton served as an elder at WFR Church, where he led singing for many years and founded several ministries, including Camp Ch-Yo-Ca, a place for children to play, sing, and learn about God. An author of several best selling books, he left a legacy of music and writing that his family continues. His granddaughter, Korie Howard Robertson, of the Duck Dynasty Family, has produced a hit Christmas album, movies, and books. His great-granddaughter, Sadie Robertson Huff, honors his memory with her books and songs of worship.
