In December 1989, soldiers of the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama, and among those who lost their lives while serving there were CPL Ivan Perez of Co B, 4th BN, 6th INF; PVT2 Kenneth Scott of Co A, 4th BN, 6th INF; and SPEC Larry Emerson of HHC, 4th BN, 6th INF.
