Built in 1914 by Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Porter, pioneer settlers, this house was the home of Porter, an ex-cowboy who ranched near here after marrying Millie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Jones, settlers in the Mobeetie area since 1886. Born in 1877 and dying in 1957, Millie helped herd sheep as a child, attended Fort Worth University as a girl, and attended the University of Oklahoma at age 70. She wrote the valuable histories "Put Up or Shut Up" and "Memory Cups of Panhandle Pioneers." Mr. and Mrs. Porter had six children.
