An old stone house was built about 1772 and used for many years as a tavern. It was set on fire by Indians on Oct. 17, 1780, while the family was in the Old Stone Fort, and Patriot soldiers put out the fire. It was owned in 1803 by Peter P. Snyder and in 1833 by Lodowick Fries.
