Jackson Covered Bridge at Rockport in Parke County, Indiana, spans Sugar Creek as a single-span Double Burr Arch truss on stone abutments. Built in 1861 by J. J. Daniels, it is his oldest surviving bridge and the longest single-span covered bridge in Indiana. Its construction followed a local campaign by residents near Wright’s Upper Mills and Star Mills, who raised money alongside county funding to secure a better crossing for an active mill community. Named for Andrew Jackson as a unionist statement during the Civil War era, the bridge also preserves the memory of Rockport’s milling, commerce, and civic cooperation.
