The East Fairfield Covered Bridge in East Fairfield, Vermont, carries Bridge Street over Black Creek near the village’s western end and is Fairfield’s only surviving nineteenth-century covered bridge. Built about 1865 by an unknown builder, it is a Queen post truss bridge measuring 68 feet long and 16.5 feet wide, with iron rods and added bracing for stability. Set on dry-laid stone abutments later finished with concrete and mortar, it remained in use through repeated town efforts before closing to traffic. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it was reconstructed beginning in August 2008 and reopened on July 5, 2009.
