Bridge of Dreams near Brinkhaven, Ohio, is a 370-foot covered bridge over the Mohican River that began as a Pennsylvania Railroad bridge in the 1920s. In 1998, local residents and businesses transformed the abandoned railroad crossing into the centerpiece of the Mohican Valley Trail by covering the long steel span, a plan whose doubters inspired its name. Built with nearly $90,000 in contributions and an Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant, it was completed in December 1998 and dedicated in April 1999. The trail opened in 2001, and the bridge now carries pedestrians, cyclists, and Amish buggies. It is Ohio’s second longest covered bridge and the nation’s third longest.
