Adam Jacoby Slemmer was born in Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, married Caroline Lane Reynold, attended and taught at West Point Military Academy, served in the US Military and Union Army from 1850 to 1865, fought in the Seminole Wars, held Fort Pickens, Florida, against threatened Confederate attack, and died at Fort Laramie, Wyoming.
