St. Anne's Episcopal Church was established in 1914 by Melbourne Knowles, Ansel Saunders, and A.L. Wilkins, all from the Islands of the Bahamas. Its first services were held in a wooden building at the corner of what is now Dixie Highway and Foster Road, a site used as a Social Pool Hall from Monday through Saturday and converted into a church sanctuary on Sundays. In 1921, the congregation purchased the church's current site, which was later destroyed by the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926. The sanctuary was rebuilt in 1927 but was destroyed again by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. After the 1935 hurricane, the church bell was salvaged from the rubble and loaned to the City of Hallandale Beach for use as an air-raid warning signal during World War II. In the early forties, pioneer families hand-crafted cement blocks to build a new sanctuary, where the first service was held on Palm Sunday, March 21, 1948, officiated by the late Rev. John Jarrett, II. Over the century, many priests served the congregation, including Rev. George Taylor from 1968 to 1977, Rev. Robert Preston from 1977 to 1991, Rev. Dr. Williamson S. Taylor from 1993 to 2002, and Rev. Ronald N. Fox from 2010 to the present.
