This building was almost certainly one of the earliest work buildings erected at Sahuaro Ranch. It began as a horse stable, with the eastern half, marked by vertical wood siding, built first, possibly before 1890, to house horses used by the Bartlett family, their guests, and employees for riding and for pulling carriages or wagons. The western half, marked by horizontal siding, was added in 1935, when the Smith family was raising more livestock, including dairy cows and beef cattle, and needed storage for large amounts of feed. Sometime in the late 1930s, the horses were moved out and the entire building was converted into a granary, with a feed grinder installed and bins built to store grain and feed. A grain grinder and feed mixer still remain in the building, though they no longer work, most of the storage bins have been removed, and the steel roof on the west end was installed in recent years.
