Louisa May Alcott is best known as the author of the American classic novel 'Little Women.' Early in her writing career, she published poems, short stories, thrillers, and juvenile tales under various pseudonyms while also working as a nurse during the Civil War. That experience, subsequently documented under the title 'Hospital Sketches,' confirmed her commitment as a serious writer, after which she published under her real name. A stone cottage was named in recognition of her contributions to American literature; the cottage was constructed in 1932 and served as one of six classrooms and dormitories that housed students of Ellis College.
