McGowan Peak
Nature
McGowan Peak is a 9,860-foot mountain in Idaho’s Sawtooth Range, within the Sawtooth Wilderness of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. In Custer County, it rises above the southwest end of Stanley Lake, making it a prominent feature of one of central Idaho’s best-known alpine landscapes. The peak stands about 3.25 miles north-northwest of Alpine Peak, its line parent, and has also been recorded as McGown Peak. As part of a protected wilderness setting, its steep profile helps form the dramatic skyline around Stanley Lake and the broader Sawtooth country.
