Mount Heyburn is a prominent ten-thousand-foot peak in Idaho’s Sawtooth Range, rising above Redfish Lake in the Sawtooth Wilderness and helping create the serrated skyline of central Idaho. Along with nearby Grand Mogul, it frames the southwest end of the lake and stands conspicuously over one of the most visited parts of the Sawtooths. Named for Idaho U.S. senator Weldon Heyburn, who served from 1903 until 1912, the mountain is strikingly visible but not easily climbed. No trails reach the summit, and every route is class 5, making it a technical ascent even though access to its base is relatively straightforward.
