Hutchins Covered Bridge in rural Montgomery, Vermont, carries Hutchins Bridge Road over the South Branch of the Trout River. Built in 1883 by brothers Sheldon and Savannah Jewett, it is a single-span Town lattice truss and one of seven surviving area bridges attributed to them, giving Montgomery an unusual concentration of bridges linked to one builder. Though typical of the region, it has distinctive features including a metal gable roof, siding that wraps into the portals, and an open strip below the eaves. After local activity declined, the bridge deteriorated badly, was stabilized with steel beams, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and reconstructed in 2009.
