Nature
Sunrise Mountain is a 1,650-foot peak in the Kittatinny Mountains of northwestern New Jersey within Stokes State Forest. Overlooking Beemerville and lying directly on the Appalachian Trail, it is one of the best-known viewpoints along this part of the ridge and among the forest’s most visited places. Its summit has thin soil and a harsh climate that limit plant growth, yet mountain laurel, blueberry, pitch pine, and bear oak grow there. A pavilion built in the late 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps still stands at the top, linking the site to New Deal efforts that shaped public recreation across the region.
